Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. ~World Health Organization, 1948.
The San Miguel County Maternal Child Health (MCH) Council and the Healthier Communities Council of San Miguel County (HCC) have merged into the San Miguel County Family & Community Health Council (Consejo Pro Salubridad Familiar y Comunitaria del Condado de San Miguel).
In April 2004, the San Miguel County Board of County Commissioners formally appointed 21 members to the new blended San Miguel County Family & Community Health Council and, in May 2004, by-laws were adopted and officers elected. Since 2004, the council has continued to evolve. Members are appointed by the County Commission in the fall of each year.
The Council membership is made up of diverse individuals who represent service providers, community agencies, organizations, coalitions and private citizens. The council strives to maintain a membership which is geographically and ethnically representative of San Miguel County. Primarily, our goal is to further facilitate and develop the comprehensive community health improvement process, through council assessment, planning and coordination at a county level.
Additionally, coordination services also support community action and systems evaluation. The Health Council meets on a monthly basis, with Committees (Interpersonal Violence, Teen Pregnancy, iabetes/Obesity) also holding regular meetings. All meetings are open to the public, if you are interested in attending meetings, or becoming a member of a committee or the Health Council, please contact the Health Council Office at smhealthcouncil@desertgate.com or 505-425-9770.
topPart of the process of creating by-laws included creating a purpose, vision and mission statements for the council. In addition, the by-laws govern size of membership, types of committees and election of an executive committee. The following PDF file contains the by-laws which govern the health council and were adopted in May, 2004.
